Judge 1: The color shift takes this ordinary shot to the next level. Great composition. Great idea! The lens flare took away from the composition score. Otherwise, excellent capture! Judge 2: Great viewpoint. There were a lot of good decisions in this shot such as taking the shot on the diagonal angle. Selecting the low back lighting is also wonderful, creating some strong shadows, and enhancing the texture, yet still keeping the detail in the shadows. This is a great example of using lens flare to enhance the mood - hard to do without being hackneyed. A good example of "breaking of the rules". All of those decisions create a strong drama and gorgeous light. The eye roams in this picture nicely. Love the soft focus of the background (and it's hazy feel), don't like the soft focus on the right and l.r. The photographer actually created a good hyperfocal focus (focused 1/3 in), and was almost great at it, but just missed it in some of the foreground. Still, really fascinating. Judge 3: Great use of perspective, light, texture, and composition to convey real power and impact!
